Chain jewelry is a timeless accessory. Chain necklaces, gold, silver or steel bracelets... but if they're not stored properly, you can run into a little problem: when you put on your necklace, you realize that the chain is all tangled up! Discover with us, several tips to learn how to untangle a chain, whether it's a necklace or any other jewel or accessory.
If your favorite necklaces have ended up with their chains tangled in the box, first of all, don't panic: with a little patience and a few tricks, untangling will be easy. First, consider opening the clasps, which will allow the chains to slide out unhindered.
Next, how do you untangle necklaces? First, you can try the greasy technique. This involves soaking the chains in - say - cooking oil or cosmetic oil: a few drops are all that's needed. Then gently knead the whole between the palms of your hands. Once the chains are well oiled, try to untangle them again: pleasant surprise, they slide much more easily and should soon be separated.
In case they resist, here's another tip: get a sewing needle (a good size). By pulling on a few links, the chains should slide easily over each other and quickly come free.
Note: you can replace the oil with talcum powder. By dusting your chains with talcum powder and kneading them slowly between your fingers, it will then be easy to untangle them. Talc also makes the last stage of detangling easier: don't forget to clean your chains thoroughly at the end! A little soapy water will remove any excess grease, but the operation is even easier after detangling with talcum powder: in this case, simply run the chains under a trickle of tap water.
Chain jewelry can sometimes be stored in the wrong way, leading to tangles and even knots... so how do you untangle a necklace or bracelet?
First of all, open the clasp, then bring along a table or cosmetic oil and two large sewing needles. Note: the needles can be replaced by two safety pins or hairpins.
Start by soaking the center of the knot with the oil or talcum powder, then knead the area. Then try again to untangle the knot. If the knot remains untangled, move on to the needles (or pins): twist the two needles in opposite directions. By gently pulling on a few links, the chain should slide easily and the knot loosen. You can then finish by hand. Don't forget to rinse your chain thoroughly after this operation.
