The true history of the "Crocodile" dates back to 1927. At the time, René Lacoste was nicknamed "The Alligator" by the American press, in reference to a bet made with the captain of the Davis Cup team for a crocodile-skin suitcase. The crocodile embroidered on his blazer on the occasion of this bet unconsciously gave birth to the very first LACOSTE L.12.12 polo shirt.
