How to know your ring size? Finger circumference explained

Rings are an essential part of any refined outfit. Whether for a special event or for everyday wear, your gold or silver ring enhances your appearance and reflects your personality. But a little problem can arise: when you take it off, it doesn't fit anymore and gets stuck. How to remove a stuck ring: that's what we're going to find out together!
It's possible that the ring is stuck because your finger has swollen. This is often the case at the end of the day, especially in the summer when it's hot, or if you've done something strenuous (or sporty) that's made you overheat. Your fingers can also swell during the night due to lying down.
In this case, don't panic: the first step is to deflate your hands, and therefore your finger. Start by placing your hand under a stream of cold tap water for 30 seconds to a minute. If that's not enough, you can also plunge your hand into a glass of water containing two or three ice cubes. This should help loosen the ring on your swollen finger. Once you've done this, help your ring to slide off by pulling on the skin of your finger at the bottom, palm side.
Didn't the cold water trick work? Don't worry, we'll use a fatty substance to act as a lubricant instead. Take some cooking oil or butter, or Vaseline or a cosmetic cream from your pharmacy. Brush your finger with this material, taking care to slide a little under the ring. Next, try again to remove your stuck ring from your swollen finger, using a twisting motion, always in the same direction to promote lubrication. This method usually works!
It's not uncommon to wear your ring or wedding band for weeks or months without a care in the world. But sometimes a nasty surprise awaits you when it's time to take it off: the ring is stuck and won't come out anymore because your finger has grown a little too big for the original size of your ring. How do I remove a stuck ring? In most cases, this problem can be solved in the same way as in the case of a swollen finger.
First of all, try immersing your hand in cold or ice-cold water for a good minute. Then gently pull on your ring with a continuous rotating movement. If it doesn't come out, there's still the trick of using oil or another fatty substance. Spread the oil or cream well over your finger, getting under the ring as much as possible, then pull it out by turning it slowly, without stopping. It can be difficult to pull on the ring with greasy fingers: to get a better grip, you can use a cloth or tissue, which will give your grip a better grip.
If, despite everything, the method is ineffective, how do you remove a ring that's too small and stuck? You can use dental floss, another thread or a ribbon. This method involves compressing the circumference of your finger to make it thinner. Pass the dental floss under the ring, using a needle if necessary, then wrap the floss around your finger enough to reduce its thickness. Finally, unwind the floss slowly, starting on the palm side: the stuck ring should release at the same time.
Despite all your efforts, your ring or wedding band is still stuck on your finger: how do you get it off? In this case, there's still a solution: visit your jeweller, who will cut off your ring. It's important to use a professional, firstly to avoid injuring yourself, and secondly to avoid damaging your ring. A professional jeweler has the right tools to cut your ring cleanly, precisely and, above all, safely. What's more, the jeweller can offer to enlarge your ring: you'll go home with your favourite ring resized to your new finger size!
To avoid these worries, or at least to encounter them as little as possible, make sure you choose the right size of ring or wedding band when you buy it. Our article will give you all the advice you need to choose the right size for your ring, so that you can enjoy it for a long time to come, in the greatest comfort.
